Just a quick note to update everyone on the upcoming registration and calendar for the 2017 Hockey University program:
As always, registration is officially open on Wednesday February 1st. This means you can enroll online at hockeyuniversity.com, or through the mail starting at midnight February 1st.
Every year we get a lot of questions from parents wondering when they should enroll. Generally, the age groups will be full by April 1st, even though the official registration deadline is May 1st. Since we only require 1/3rd of the enrollment fee with the registration form, it is probably a good idea to secure your spot in the program by March 1st. The second payment is not due until June 1st, and the third payment is not due until July 1st.
There are 2 DISCOUNTED options available. You will receive a $100 credit for EVERY new player (someone who has never participated in Hockey U before) that you refer. Simply have that person write your name in the “referred by” line on the registration form. Refer 1 player, get $100 off; refer 3 players, get $300 off; refer 10 players get $1000 off!!!!!! For real!
The other discount is offered to any team supplying 6 or more skaters. All eligible players will receive a 10% discount. For example, if there are 6 PeeWee’s enrolled from the same team, each player will receive a $155 credit.
THE FIRST 2 WEEKS, JUNE 5-15, OCCUR IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING AFTER SCHOOL. We switch to mornings starting Monday June 19th. Actual times stated in the brochure may vary slightly as it is difficult to make the schedule until we have a firm idea about the numbers of players in each group.
Orientation Sunday and Testing is June 4th. We realize that this is a very busy time of year for many people-LAX tournaments, softball, baseball, recitals, and graduations. Please make every effort to have your child and at least 1 parent attend the Orientation. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to test your skater during the 1st week if you miss that Sunday.
Last but not least, WE ARE EXCITED AND READY FOR ANOTHER GREAT SUMMER OF HOCKEY U!
Feel free to contact Carrie if you have questions!

Hockey University is pleased to announce the addition of Mike Ayers, head goaltending coach for the USA NTDP, to our program!
Before joining the USA NTDP this season, Mike spent the last 2 seasons as the goaltending coach at St. Cloud University of the WCHA. Prior to the 2009-10 campaign, he served as goaltending coach for the Iowa Chops, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks.
The Hingham, Mass., native has also served as a regional scout for the NTDP and worked as a regional mentor for the Strelow National Goaltending Program, which is designed to recruit, develop and produce elite goaltenders in the United States.
Mike’s Coaching Philosophy
While there are a multitude of goaltending styles, our mission will be to help each player achieve a higher level of play. This will be done through direct player-coach interaction and enhancement of the goaltender as an athlete. The initial focus will be to gain an understanding of the key attributes each player has. Once observed, we will use the player’s strength’s to put him/her in a position to succeed, while simultaneously working on the player’s weaknesses to be a more well-rounded goaltender. We will also do drills to enhance the athleticism of the goaltender. Athleticism is a huge part of this specialized position, and we will assess, identify, and address any athletic areas that need improvement. Our goal is to help players feel comfortable in the net, and let their natural instincts and abilities come through during pressure situations, while using key fundamentals they have been taught.
Hockey University Goaltending Program
Here at Hockey University, goaltenders will enjoy being treated as equals! Not only will they have specialized on-ice goaltending instruction, but they will also participate in all aspects of the Hockey University Program. They will engage in all of the off-ice training and will be included in the skating sessions with their respective age groups. Mite and Squirt goalies will work with Mike one day/week, and will skate with their group on the other day. Peewee, Bantam, and Midget/High School goalies will train with Mike one day/week, take shots with their group one day/ week, and skate with their group one day/week. Space will be limited to 4 goalies per age group-don’t miss out on your chance to be involved in the only 10 week professional goalie training program in the country!
